Padre Melo to Speak at Fordham University

Nov. 5, 2015 – On Thurs. Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m., human rights activist, Fr. Ismael Moreno Coto, SJ, more commonly known as Padre Melo, will speak at Fordham University. A native of Honduras, Padre Melo directs the radio station Radio Progreso and E.R.I.C, which focus on grassroots radio programming, human rights training, the formation of leadership committed to social change and aiding migrant families.

Dr. Michael Lee of Fordham’s theology department will be on hand to ask Padre Melo about the struggles that families and young people face in Honduras due to poverty as well as the injustices in other Latin American countries forcing people to seek refuge in the United States.

The conversation will take place in the Flom Auditorium in the Walsh Library located in the Rose Hill campus. The event is being jointly sponsored by the USA Northeast Province, the Archdiocese of New York, the Centro Altagracia de fe y Justicia, Fordham University’s Theology Department and Fordham’s Dorothy Day Center for Service & Justice.
