March 18, 2020 - As the world continues to make sense of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have collected some resources that you can use during this tumultuous time. 


Prayer Video from Pope Francis

On March 17, 2020, Pope Francis said a special prayer at mass for the elderly who are some of the most vulnerable to this virus. 


Events at Parishes

While most people will not be able to go outside to attend mass, some of our parishes are livestreaming and recording masses for the faithful who are avoiding groups.

  • St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish is asking their religious education parents to engage in homeschooling of their children. The Parish uses www.faithfirst.com
  • St. Raphael the Archangel has virtual faith formation for middle and high school students

Prayer and Reflections

  • Holy Trinity has gathered some Prayer Resources and a blog for the care of the whole person.
  • The Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City has a breaking open God's word on Friday Evenings and Saturday mornings (space is limited because it is done through Zoom, info can also be found on their Facebook page. 
  • St. Ignatius Chestnut Hill offers reflections, homilies, and prayer links.
  • St. Peter, Charlotte Reflections

Teleconferencing

  • The Church of St. Francis Xavier in NYC, RCIA continues to meet using Zoom.
  • St. Peter, Charlotte offers the Prayer of the Examen and a Laudato Si sturdy group via online platforms.

Phone Trees

St. Peter Church, Charlotte, N.C., has instituted a phone tree that reaches out to seniors. The Pastoral Council is organizing volunteers to assist seniors. 

Supportive Groups

St. Peter's Church's Charlotte Mothers’ group is using Facebook to give each other ideas for creatively working with children at home.  They encourage each other with inspirational messages and offer assistance. 

Other Activities

  • St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish in Washington, D.C., with have Palm distributed 'drive-by' style. Parishioners are invited to drive in front of the church on Palm Sunday from 8:00-10:00 am.
  • St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill has Adoration and silent prayer at the church on Sunday mornings.

Fr. Fred Betti, SJ, associate pastor at St. Michael’s Church in Buffalo shared a prayer card for St. Aloysius Gonzaga who is the patron of victims of epidemics because of his work in caring for plague victims. Click here to view the card.

March 30, 2020 - Fr. Joseph A. O’Hare SJ, was called to eternal life on March 29, 2020, at 9 p.m. He was born on February 12, 1931 in New York, N.Y., entered the Society of Jesus at St. Andrew-on-Hudson, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on July 30, 1948, and was ordained on June 17, 1961. He pronounced his final vows on August 15, 1965.

March 24, 2020 — Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination and martyrdom of St. Oscar Romero, renowned archbishop of San Salvador and outspoken advocate for justice during El Salvador’s civil war.

March 16, 2020 - Last week Fr. Dennis Baker, SJ, president of Xavier High School in Micronesia announced that the school would be closing early and that students would be sent home. Read an update from Fr. Baker on how to help support the staff and teachers.

Eastern Point Retreat House, a grand house located on the Atlantic shore in Gloucester, Mass., has been welcoming retreatants since 1958.
