JesuitPrayer.org: Reaching People Where They Are

Jesuits and lay colleagues from the Maryland and USA Northeast Province have partnered with JesuitPrayer.org to provide Ignatian prayers, inspirational messages, and daily reflections based on Gospel readings—all delivered to your mobile phone, desktop, or email inbox.

Launched in 2012, JesuitPrayer.org reaches more than 10,000 daily email subscribers, along with thousands of weekly web visitors across the country, helping to forge stronger connections with Ignatian spirituality. To date, the app has had more than 80,000 downloads, and as a free service, JesuitPrayer.org lets users carry with them a comprehensive, portable prayer aid that accompanies them wherever and whenever they devote some time to prayer.

The day’s scripture reading, reflection, and suggested prayer are sent daily to email users, while mobile app users can opt to be automatically reminded to access the site or pray the Examen. Finally, desktop users are able to visit JesuitPrayer.org at any time to see the day’s content, or browse back through the archives.

Among the most popular features are reflections written by Jesuits and Ignatian partners from ministries across the province, and a feature that allows users to electronically submit prayer requests, which are acknowledged within 24 hours and, each week, are prayed for by Jesuits in our senior health care centers, who also recognize the requests while celebrating Mass.

“JesuitPrayer.org will provide alumni, parishioners, retreatants —anyone—easy access to Ignatian prayers. And I think they will truly enjoy the reflections written by Jesuits and others with whom they may have built relationships at our various works,” said Fr. George Witt, SJ, director of the Office of Ignatian Spirituality, which spans the East Coast.

“So far, JesuitPrayer.org has received and responded to over 22,000 prayer requests,” said Jeremy Langford, founding editor of Jesuit Prayer. “Each week, we pass along to Jesuits messages of thanksgiving, expressions of doubt, petitions for people experiencing suffering in their lives, and parents praying for their kids. Today, when we ask ourselves what would St. Ignatius have us do, I believe he would encourage us to continue finding new ways to share Jesuit Prayer with all, and we’re very excited to partner with Jesuits and friends of the Society on the East Coast.”
